I was truly honoured to be chosen to paint this portrait of Naomi Mayers, co-founder of the Aboriginal Medical Service, Redfern. The portrait was commissioned by the Aboriginal Medical Service to commemorate 40 years of the AMS. It was presented to Ms. Mayers by Dame Marie Bashir AC, CVO, in 2016.

‘The Boys’ was a very tricky commission. Obviously the painting is enormous (1.5 x 4 m), and the clients wanted bold, bright, abstract, and exactly the dimensions stated. It was to hang on a very dark wall, in a dim area of the house, so they wanted a statement. However, the viewer could not step very far away from the painting, as it was at the top of a narrow staircase… This was the result.
